Dear Parents and Children
Please find below a grid informing you of the work that Dolphin Class will be covering this half-term.
Summer 2 2010
Subject |
Unit of work |
Knowledge and understanding |
We have started our ‘Homes’ topic and have created a cave in the role play area of the classroom. We will also be using the playhouse and having a tent to play in. We would like the children to bring in an ‘old’ item linked to homes, such as an old kitchen item, old gardening or D.I.Y. tool so that they can discuss what it is, draw it and look at the modern equivalent. We will be exploring and using the school grounds as much as possible in our learning and looking at plants, wildlife and animal homes. The children will continue to use IT to enhance their learning. |
Mathematical Development |
Through activities, games , songs and rhymes children will practise counting to 100 and will learn to recognise and use numbers. The children will be taught: addition as the combination of two sets, subtraction by counting back and finding one more/ less than a range of numbers. We will reinforce telling o’clock times and extending to ½ past times. The children will compare the volume of different containers and use comparative language. |
Communication, language and literacy |
We are sharing big books with the children and encouraging them to read together. The children will continue to write sentences using their wordbook. They will be learning to write common words from memory. The children will be creating pictures from listening to descriptive language. Many thanks for supporting your child with their reading. |
R.E./ P.H.S.E. |
We will be comparing aspects of different faiths with Christianity and finding out about people who help us.In addition to this the children will listen to and discuss Bible stories and prepare for our end of year church service. |
Creative Development |
The children will continue to use modeling kits. They will create models of houses from boxes. The cave area will be decorated with relevant art work. Drawing, painting and drama will be linked to the topic. Musical activities will include singing, moving to music and using percussion instruments. |
Physical Development |
Children will continue to practice skills related to the creative development work. In P.E. on a Friday, they will be practicing sport’s day races. |
